How to Fight Prostate Cancer

By Steve Zappa

If you have been following the latest developments in medicine and science, you will know that prostate cancer is now the number one killer of men over the age of 45. Even though doctors have been trained about this killer and more is known about how to prevent prostate cancer, most men are reluctant to follow a good diet or simply do not know how to reduce their risk of getting prostate cancer.

There are a number of ways that men can reassure themselves however.

Below is a list of medical facts and suggestions from various credible sources that every man should know about.

One in every 6 men will suffer from prostate problems in their lives. So there is no need to feel isolated or a victim. Just take action and get to a doctor quickly at the first sign.

If you can get to a doctor quickly, you can be cured. The longer the cancer goes undetected, the greater your chances of death. Your doctor will refer you to a Urologist who will actually treat the cancer.

There is hope for the future. In 2002, scientists at Liverpool University in the UK isolated the gene that promotes the spread of prostate cancer. This information is still being explored to hopefully produce new drugs which will assist treatment of Prostate cancer outside of the normal Chemotherapy regimes currently in use.

All doctors agree that a change in diet can prevent or lower dramatically the chances that you will get prostate cancer.

1. Dairy products. Dairy products should be eliminated from the diet. Soy milk should be used instead. Research has shown that just a few glasses of soy milk a day can have dramatic results.

2. Lyocopene. Tomatoes have lyocopene which has shown to prevent prostate cancer. One tomato a day provides 4 mg of lycopene. Tomato juice provides up to 25 mg of lycopene.

3. Other fruits and vegetables are also recommended, such as avocadoes, pumpkins, beans and carrots and green leafy vegetables like spinach.

4. Eat garlic. Garlic has allicin which slows the spread of cancer cells. Garlic also has selenium.

5. Eat broccoli. Broccoli contains selenium.

6. Cut back on salt and seasonings as these have been linked to cancer.

7. Finally, green tea is a popular choice as a beverage so drink at least 6 cups a day.

The diet above will radically reduce your chances of getting prostate cancer. - 31370
